Accomplishments
Since its founding in 1999,
Interfaith Forum has successfully carried out a number of
worthy projects in the Upstate community including the following:
-
DINNER DIALOGUES
Interfaith Forum, along with
other area organizations, has introduced Amazing Faiths
Dinner Dialogues to the upstate. The dinners offer
Greenville area residents the opportunity to gather in
diverse and intimate groups for dinner and engage in
moderated conversation about religion, faith and tolerance.
This night of listening, learning and sharing takes place in
private homes around the city and includes small groups of
eight to ten people. The Amazing Faiths Project is designed
for people of all faiths, people of no faith, and everyone
in between to expand their comfort zones with regard to
religious diversity in our community. The dinner is free of
charge and participants are simply asked to attend with
tolerant and respectful attitudes. This national
program began in 2006 as a collaborative project between the
Mayor’s Office of the City of Houston, the Boniuk Center for
Religious Tolerance at Rice University and Interfaith
Ministries for Greater Houston. At least once a year,
Dinner Dialogues take place in cities around the country,
including Houston, San Antonio, Austin; Oklahoma City,
Chicago, Washington, DC, Harrisburg, PA and Syracuse, NY . .
. and GREENVILLE!
-
INTERFAITH NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
If you're looking for an inspirational way to participate in
the National Day of Prayer, you're invited to join us on the
first Thursday of May for an interfaith celebration of the
power of prayer. The event runs from 12:30 - 1:00pm and
celebrates the work of faith-based groups and the amazing
diversity of faiths represented in the Greenville area.
-
FESTIVAL OF FAITHS
This recurring festival is a major project of IF. Its
purpose is to create a forum where participants learn from
each other and celebrate the diversity of our faith
communities. With themes like Building Bridges - The
Faces of Faith and The Golden Rule, the festivals have
included noted speakers, workshops, media
events, refreshments, arts, crafts, storytelling and music for
adults, children and families to enjoy.
The theme for the 2007 Festival was An Interfaith Celebration
of the Arts in Worship. The Festival is not currently being held,
as Interfaith Forum establishes Dinner
Dialogues as an annual event.
-
ARTS FROM OUR HEARTS
This event, held in October 2004 and May 2006, included displays of
visual arts in many media, including drawing, painting,
sculpture, woodworking, fabric art, photography and children's
art. It also featured a variety of performance art
presentations including gospel music, poetry reading,
liturgical dance, participatory drumming, and other
performances, all aimed at spreading a message of peace,
respect and understanding through the universal languages of
music and art.
-
WORLD RELIGION SERIES
Since 2000, IF has held two World Religion Series at
Greenville Technical College that were open to the public and
well-attended. People of all religious backgrounds came to
learn more about faiths other than their own.
-
MLK HOLIDAY OBSERVANCE
In January 2001, IF convened the first community-wide, inter-racial and
inter-religious observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Holiday. Since then, this annual observance has grown to
include over 1,000 black and white participants as well as
representatives of many of our affiliated congregations and
individual members of IF. The organization
also advocated for a paid MLK holiday in Greenville County.

City of Greenville to advocate for improved low cost housing
